The pebble effect.
I've always had this view that you can speak louder with your actions than your words. This weekend I saw it first hand in a grand way. I played with the whole running thing for a few years before I ever started. I have a friend from high school that told me running was easy just put on the shoes and go. She never pushed just showed by her actions with races she was doing. I would see her posted on Facebook and thought that it was cool and good for her. That was a pebble
Another pebble, my friend Tiffany has a goal to do a half marathon a year. At the end of 2012 she asked if I would run the wounded warrior half. I had already been toying with the ideal with Nellie from my fit group. Having Tiffany run the race and my husband in the race was a no brainier.
Another pebble, since I've been running I've now had friends and family start walking/running everyday. Changing their eating habits and getting fit. It's wonderful to see the lifestyle changes people around me are making because of a pebble that rolled my way years ago.
This weekend I ran a half marathon in Huntsville, TX. It was with the 7 hills running club and I should have know it would be 7 hills from hell. Really it was a killer. What made it with the pain, sweat & barely able to walk today was my family and the pebbles.
The best pebbles of all: having my cheerleaders at every race. I love that my dad has not missed a big race since I started. My dad was a trouper and took the kid from one end of the race to the other. This time we had more family than ever and people heard them. Danny had made my aunt's first experience in the running world so much fun she was ready for this race. The cheerleader squad had signs and showed up along the course to cheer me up and down those damn hills. This race I even had my step-mom there and hope she will be able to see some future races. My pebbles has encourage my cousin to take up running. She started a healthy lifestyle transformation and is doing awesome. She ran the 5k and came in 3rd for her age group. Her pebbles start with one of her sons running with us in the 5k. He also placed 1st in his age group, awesome job. He started changing his lifestyle more to a healthier one and is doing great. My point is you may never know when you drop a pebble and who may pick it up. Where are your pebbles?
